Let Us Begin Making a Difference Together
My Brothers,
The Masonic Fraternity has an ancient honorable tradition based on the teachings of friendship, morality and brotherly love. When our Masonic fore-fathers were faced with the prospect of government rule by England, their efforts and actions resulted in the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. They were faced with many obstacles, but our Masonic leaders had much to accomplish that was printed on their Trestleboard. George Washington and his trusted brethren seized the moment to make a difference in their quest for human rights and freedom. Masonic history has recorded that this revolutionary struggle for individual freedom has occurred five times beginning with our American Revolution. In each struggle for human rights, Masons were the driving force behind EACH of these efforts. You have been chosen by your peers to be a part of this honorable heritage. Whether you consider yourself a person or more especially a Brother Mason, there is a fine line between just thinking about what needs to be accomplished and taking action to see that you are a person who will make a difference.
You think that Masonry is out of touch with today’s thinking, and you assume there is nothing written on our Trestleboard. But my Brother, you could not be any further from the truth. Never before in our country’s history are the tenants of our craft more relevant. During our greatest hour, America has had fourteen presidents, statesmen, literary giants and business leaders who were Masons. These men had a vision to make America great. But today, where are those men who will provide that much needed leadership? You did not understand the significance of these teachings and the commitment of all the great men before you who worked diligently to give you these freedoms. If you have not been in Lodge since 2003, there is a mirror at the Lodge room entrance. Inscribe on the mirror are the words “Take a good look at yourself; you’re somebody’s impression of Masonry.” The next time you stand in front of your mirror, ask yourself, do I feel proud to be a Mason? Have I done all that I truly can to make this world a better place for my family and future generations? Life seems to be out of control, but you do have two choices. You can continue your present course of ‘ if you keep doing what you are doing, then you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.’ Instead, I hope you’ll make a commitment to join us to improve our community, our country and to once again feel Masons are making a difference in our world. Fraternally, Perne R. Maynard, PM Secretary Fayette Lodge # 69 |
